School holidays are almost here! If you’re wondering how to keep the kids busy over the break, we’ve rounded up some of the best things happening around Perth these spring school holidays.
1. Perth Royal Show
Where: Claremont Showground, Claremont
WA’s biggest annual event kicks off the holidays properly, running 26 September to 3 October. Showbags, sideshow alley, animal pavilions, fireworks and enough fairy floss to last until Christmas.
2. ZOOlights at Perth Zoo
Where: Perth Zoo, South Perth
Perth Zoo stays open until 7.30pm for the whole break, 26 September to 11 October, with over 300 lanterns lighting up the grounds after dark. See the animals by day, then wander the light trails once the sun goes down.
3. PowerPlay Joondalup School Holiday PowerPass
Where: PowerPlay, Joondalup
Two levels of electric go-karting in Joondalup, with a School Holiday PowerPass on offer for the break. Riders need to be 10+ and 140cm tall, so it’s one for the older kids.
4. Adventure World’s season opening day
Where: Adventure World, Bibra Lake
Perth’s only theme and water park kicks off its new season on 26 September, the very first day of the holidays. Rollercoasters, water slides and the Dragon’s Kingdom for the little ones.
5. AWESOME International Arts Festival
Where: Perth Cultural Centre precinct, Yagan Square and Subiaco Arts Centre
Five days of theatre, music, visual arts and hands-on creative experiences for kids aged 0 to 12, running 29 September to 3 October across three hubs. A gentler, more sensory-friendly option if the Royal Show crowds aren’t your thing.
6. State Library storytime with Kelly Canby
Where: State Library of WA, Perth Cultural Centre
Award-winning author and illustrator Kelly Canby runs a warm, funny storytime session for under 5s on 29 September at 10.30am, as part of the AWESOME festival program. $5 per child, bookings required.
7. Trick or Treat at The Bell Tower
Where: The Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay
The Bell Tower’s resident ghost is “dying to meet you” throughout October, with a spooky trail, craft table, origami bats and a $5 weekday entry special for kids under 12. Older kids can piece together the ghost’s backstory across nine levels of the tower.
8. Burst into Spring at Scitech
Where: Scitech, West Perth
Scitech’s school holiday program runs 26 September to 11 October, headlined by the brand-new Science Theatre show Spring Loaded, exploring how energy is stored and released. The planetarium and puppet theatre shows run alongside it.
9. Araluen Tulip Festival
Where: Araluen Botanic Park, Roleystone
Around 250,000 tulips and spring bulbs across the Araluen valley, running through to 18 October. Pack a picnic and let the kids run around the Perth Hills for a day.
10. Whiteman Park Water Playground reopens
Where: Whiteman Park, Whiteman
The free water playground opens for the season right as the holidays begin, with a shallow wading pool and water sprays for hot spring days.
11. Monster Village at Fremantle’s Esplanade Park
Where: Esplanade Park, Fremantle
Fremantle’s Esplanade Park transforms into a giant inflatable wonderland from 4 to 12 October, with zones for little kids and racing games for teens.
12. Locked Up! and Escape! at Fremantle Prison
Where: Fremantle Prison, Fremantle
Two exclusive school holiday tour experiences through the World Heritage-listed former prison, pitched at different ages — Escape! leans dramatic, Locked Up! leans hands-on.
13. Sunken Treasure Quest at the WA Maritime Museum
Where: WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle
A free trail through the Maritime Museum for kids to hunt down sunken treasure clues.
14. Scavenger Hunt at the WA Army Museum
Where: WA Army Museum, Fremantle
A self-guided scavenger hunt through the museum’s collection, built for curious kids.
15. Succulent planting workshop at The Heart Studio
Where: The Heart Studio, Fremantle
Kids paint their own pot, fill it with soil and plant a succulent to take home. A good one for the crafty, less-screen-time crowd.
16. WA Botanic Garden Favourites at Kings Park
Where: Kings Park, West Perth
A free, self-guided trail through Kings Park highlighting the botanic garden’s best-loved plants and spots, running 14 September to 6 October.
17. The Big Bounce Australia
Where: Dixon Road Reserve, Rockingham
The world’s biggest touring inflatable theme park rolls into Perth to close out the school holidays on 11 October, the last day of the break. Expect a giant jumping castle, a long obstacle course, slides and ball pits, with sessions for different age groups.
18. Eco Teen: Ocean Discovery
Where: AQWA, Hillarys
A full-day school holiday program for teens into marine science and sustainability. $145, includes entry.
19. Dave & Buster’s
Where: Dave & Buster’s, Clarkson
Australia’s first-ever Dave & Buster’s opened here in May 2026, and it’s not a small opening — over 2,000 square metres of arcade, sports bar and dining split across two service styles, plus a 40-foot “WOW Wall” screen for game day. The arcade has 75+ machines, including a couple of Australia-exclusive games (UFC Challenge, JJ Bot Avatar) you won’t find anywhere else in the country!
20. Mandurah Pirate Ship
Where: Eastern Foreshore, Mandurah (departs opposite 9 Mandurah Terrace)
The only pirate-themed cruise in WA, sailing through Mandurah’s canals and out to Dolphin Quay. Kids can steer the wheel, ring the bell and fire the water cannons while keeping an eye out for the bottlenose dolphins that call the waterways home. Dress-ups encouraged, adult pirate humour included for the grown-ups!
21. Amaze Miniature Park
Where: Amaze Miniature Park, Mandurah
Four acres of gardens holding more than 70 miniature replica buildings, mostly English, German and French village scenes, plus an Eiffel Tower, alongside a 1,000m² hedge maze, a circular “time trial” maze, interactive model trains and a 1940s tea house.
22. Landing 7
Where: Landing 7, 140 Blue Plains Road, Chittering
A big restaurant-and-playground combo in the Perth Hills! The playground caters from toddlers through to older kids, the menu has a proper kids’ section alongside the adult one, and it’s dog-friendly too.
23. Matagarup Mini Golf
Where: Northern end of Camfield Drive, Burswood Park
Perth’s biggest mini golf course, right on the banks of the Swan River between Matagarup Zip+Climb and The Camfield. It’s 18 holes with universal access built in.
