York Festival: Paper + Thread
03/06/2026 - 08/06/2026A new creative experience is taking shape in the Wheatbelt, inviting visitors to slow down, learn something new, and immerse themselves in hands-on making.
Paper + Thread, presented by the Wheatbelt Arts Hub, is a curated series of small-group masterclasses led by highly regarded Australian artists including Susie Vickery, Helen Coleman, Anne Farren, Martien van Zuilen, Sultan Shamshi and Penny Jewell. Set in the historic town of York, just 90 minutes from Perth, the program offers a rare opportunity to spend two to six days exploring traditional and contemporary craft practices in a welcoming regional setting.
Designed for adults with an interest in creativity — from passionate hobbyists to experienced makers — the workshops cover a range of disciplines including textiles, natural dyeing, felt-making, stitching and mixed media. Participants will work closely with artists in an intimate environment, allowing time to develop skills, connect with others and enjoy the process of making.
York provides the perfect backdrop for the experience, with its heritage streets, country hospitality and easy access from Perth.
Wheatbelt Arts Hub is a new initiative developed by the team behind The York Festival to support creative development in regional Western Australia and bring high-quality artistic experiences to the Wheatbelt.
Places in each workshop are limited to ensure a personalised experience.
Early bookings are encouraged.
