The Blessing of the Grapes at St George’s Cathedral

The Blessing of the Grapes at St George’s Cathedral

17/04/2016

In all wine-making countries harvest-time sees the ancient rite of the Blessing of the Grapes. In Western Australia, one of the most significant wine-making regions in the world, this takes place every April in St George’s Cathedral in Perth’s Heritage Precinct in the CBD. Baskets of newly harvested grapes from Swan Valley, Margaret River, and other regions are blessed with holy water in a liturgy sung by the nationally-renowned St George’s Cathedral Consort directed by Joseph Nolan. Following the liturgy, guests are invited into the State Buildings for an afternoon of oyster shucking and bubbles at Petition Wine Bar & Merchant. The perfect companions in the perfect setting, enjoy half a dozen complimentary oysters shucked from the bar with any purchased bottle of Tasmanian sparkling for guests of St George’s Cathedral, Blessing of the Grapes service.
