Summer Concerts in the Park – Adam Hall and The Velvet Playboys

11/02/2018

Summer is set to sizzle across the City of Nedlands as the annual Summer Concerts in the Park series celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2018. Get into the groove every Sunday in February from 5.30pm to 7pm with some swingin’ soulful sounds at a free gig in one of the City’s many picturesque parks. With a top Perth band every week, children’s activities including face-painting and a bouncy castle and food including pizza, ice cream and a sausage sizzle (or you can BYO a picnic), it’s an ideal way to round off a summer weekend.Adam Hall and The Velvet Playboys know it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got swing – that’s why they’re renowned for captivating live performances. An accomplished trumpeter, vocalist and composer, Adam also plays the trombone, alto sax, piano, euphonium, mellophonium and, on occasion, bass and drums. He has worked with numerous talents including James Morrison, Don Burrows, Frank Foster (former leader of the Count Basie Orchestra for 45 years), Shirley Horn’s band, Vanessa Amorosi and Grace Knight. The band’s repertoire is rooted in the pizazz of all that jazz and best rhythm and blues music from the ’40s and ’50s. Their inspiration comes from artists such as Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Sammy Davis Jr, Harry Connick Jr, Jackie Wilson, Chuck Berry and The Blues Brothers, enabling to them to deliver the essence of one of music’s golden ages.
