Continuing the enquiry of a City in continuous change, PerthFLUX responds to this transformation and asks in what way should our ‘new’ City engage with its communities. It additionally questions how public art can factor into this engagement. The fourth instalment in this innovative program, Radiant Energy, will see Perth-based artist Sohan Ariel Hayes develop a temporary public artwork in the disused Liberty Cinema on Barrack Street entitled Theft of Liberty. Known for his large-scale projection installation art, Hayes will collaborate with a team of well-known animators, projectionists, lighting designers, composers, filmmakers and artists to provoke audiences to consider their relationship to the city, space, liberty and revolution while delving into a history of this disused inner-city space.
