ONE-STROKE CALLIGRAPHY EXHIBITION
06/08/2016 - 20/08/2016Founder of the Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Master Hsing Yun faced over 40 years of diabetes that led to retinal detachment and unclear vision in both eyes. At age of 90, despite his blurred vision adn shaky hands, he let his heart guide his hands in completing the extremely rare ‘One-Stroke Calligraphy’. It is called One-Stroke Calligraphy because it is done in one stroke with no discontinuation from beginning to end, as any discontinuation will make it difficult to continue to the next character and his blurred vision does not allow him to distinguish the distance between each character. Every piece of work possesses great aesthetic and cultural value that stems from the wisdom and compassion of a man who has devoted his life to the propagation of Buddha’s teachings, and is both inspiring and deep in meaning. He encouranges everyone to ‘see beyond the writing, and look at my heart!’
