NEON PICNIC: 40 YEARS OF RTRFM

NEON PICNIC: 40 YEARS OF RTRFM

01/04/2017

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Community radio station RTRFM 92.1. To celebrate this special birthday, RTRFM is holding a series of events to celebrate its past and to look toward to the future. The event kicks off with the Neon Picnic in gorgeous Hyde Park with local celebrities showcasing the sounds of yesterday and today. The name ‘Neon Picnic’ pays tribute to a series of RTRFM music festivals of that name held in the late 80s and early 90s. Some of RTRFM’s best broadcasters will be broadcasting live from the park as they catch up with old friends, former presenters and the newer personalities. ‘Neon Picnic’ will provide the opportunity to savour the best in local music from bands on the radio past and present; both classics and new beats. The playlist includes guitarist Errol H Tout. Making an appearance will be three long-time friends of the station, Alsy MacDonald, Jill Birt and Martyn P Casey who will perform several Triffids songs. Coming out of retirement for the Neon Picnic are the poptastic Bank Holidays, local fuzz-pop legends Turnstyle Lite, Simone and Girlfunkle, and singers Verge Collection. Listen out for Hip Hop Master Mathas and Jazz musicians Gabriel Fatin and Pete Jeavons.Neon Picnic is a free, family-friendly event. There will be activities for children all day long, and a licensed bar for the adults.
