Light Study draws inspiration from the Noongar season of Makuru – the coldest and wettest time of the year.Sydney based artist Brendan Van Hek returns to his hometown of Perth during Winter Arts Season. A time of fertility and pairing for animals, Makuru is also a period of high winds and dramatic storms. Animated neon lights represent the colours of Makuru when the blues and purples of the Blueberry Lilly and Purple Flags are predominant, giving way to the white and cream flowers of the Weeping Peppermint and the Djilba.
