Eric Bogle: Legendary Balladeer

Eric Bogle: Legendary Balladeer

04/09/2025 - 08/09/2025

Eric Bogle — one of Australia’s most cherished singer-songwriters — is back on stage, still spinning the poignant, powerful, and often playful songs that have earned him a revered place in the hearts of audiences worldwide.

Born in Scotland in 1944 and calling Australia home since 1969, Bogle has spent over five decades crafting unforgettable stories in song. His name is forever linked with two of the most enduring anti-war ballads of the 20th century:

  • “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” — a haunting reflection on the Gallipoli campaign, and
  • “No Man’s Land (The Green Fields of France)” — a quiet, devastating meditation at a young soldier’s grave.

Covered by artists as diverse as Joan Baez and The Pogues, these songs have become global anthems of remembrance and protest.

But Bogle’s legacy goes well beyond solemn reflection. His body of work spans biting satire (“Nobody’s Moggy Now”), moving farewells (“Leaving Nancy”), calls for justice (“Shelter”), and wryly observed slices of life from his adopted home in Australia. Always delivered with his trademark blend of wit, warmth, and wisdom, his songs continue to strike a chord across generations.

Over the years, Bogle has released dozens of albums and toured extensively across Australia, the UK, Europe, North America, and New Zealand. Along the way, he’s been honoured with:

  • An Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to the performing arts
  • United Nations Peace Medal
  • National Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award

Now in his 80s, Bogle jokes he’s “retired five times” — but the stage keeps calling. And he keeps answering, with live performances that remain a masterclass in storytelling, humanity, and humour.

Don’t miss the chance to experience a living legend — an artist whose songs don’t just entertain, they endure.
