A radical new exhibition is opening in Perth on 17 September featuring images of birth and those precious moments just after new life is born. The exhibition will be the first of its kind in Western Australia and aims to open the doors on the private world of giving birth. Belle Verdiglione, Birth photographer and exhibition organiser said “The photography and films on show are unashamedly raw and emotive, often capturing the intensity of birth and the joy of families meeting their little ones for the first time.“Through the exhibition, I wanted to promote the positivity of birth and how different it can be from the sensationalised, mainstream view of birth. “Most families go through this amazing and tumultuous life experience and it’s exciting to share that journey and lay bare the art of birth. “As a birth photographer in Perth, I’m honoured to be with families at this time and so many people have wanted me to share their images so we can challenge the view that birth is something to be feared.” Held at My Midwives Perth, a private midwifery practice fast-growing in popularity due to its family-centred and supportive approach to pregnancy and birth, the exhibition opens on Saturday 17 September and runs for two weeks.
