Life on Board the Troopships at ANZAC Cottage
01/07/2018We have all heard about the famous convoy of troopships that left Australian shores in 1914, conveying our servicemen and women overseas to the battlefields in World War I. But what was life like on board these troopships? Luckily, the experiences, sad, funny and intriguing have been immortalised in the many newsletters written on board these ships. These overseas voyages continued throughout the war, ferrying wounded and ill soldiers home and carrying new recruits to the conflicts. At the July 1st Open Day at ANZAC Cottage, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage will present talks at 1:45pm and 2:45pm exploring some of these stories as recorded by the sometimes reluctant sailors. The Cottage, situated at 38 Kalgoorlie St, Mt Hawthorn will be open, as usual, from 1pm to 4pm. Entry is free with afternoon tea available for a gold coin donation.
