Walk to Work Day Supporting Black Dog Institute
27/03/2026Australians are being encouraged to prioritise their mental health when Walk to Work Day returns on Friday 27 March 2026, with a renewed national focus on wellbeing and workplace fundraising.
Now in its 27th year, the initiative led by the Pedestrian Council of Australia is supporting Black Dog Institute in 2026, highlighting the powerful mental health benefits of regular walking. Simple, everyday movement can help reduce stress, boost mood and improve focus and connection at work.
Mental illness costs Australian workplaces an estimated $39 billion each year, and around one in five Australians experience mental illness annually. Research shows walking for an hour a day can reduce the risk of major depression by up to 26 per cent, reinforcing how accessible physical activity can support overall wellbeing.
Participants are encouraged to walk all or part of their commute, organise walking meetings or lunchtime strolls, and build healthy habits beyond just one day. Individuals, teams and organisations can also register and fundraise for Black Dog Institute, helping fund research, education and digital mental health tools nationwide.
