Ilkaṟi Lipi – Big Sky Exhibition

Ilkaṟi Lipi – Big Sky Exhibition

13/03/2026 - 29/03/2026

Under one vast sky, countless desert stories unfold.

Ilkaṟi Lipi – Big Sky opens Friday 13 March at Artitja Fine Art Gallery in the Earlywork exhibition space, showcasing the powerful work of the Ernabella artists from Pukatja in the Musgrave Ranges of far north-west South Australia.

Meaning “Big Sky”, the exhibition reflects the idea of living and creating together beneath one expansive sky — where the land, light and atmosphere are not just a backdrop, but an active presence shaping memory, movement and time. Expect striking depictions of sand dunes, salt lakes, tree bark, sandstorms, honey ants and life-giving waterholes.

Pukatja is home to Ernabella Arts, Australia’s longest continuously operating Indigenous art centre, established in 1948 and internationally recognised for excellence in painting and ceramics. Artitja has worked closely with Ernabella artists for over a decade, and this exhibition continues that long-standing relationship — with artists travelling over 2,300km to attend.

  • Opening Night: Friday 13 March, 6.30–8pm (artists present)
  • Meet & Greet: Saturday 14 March, 11am–1pm
  • Free entry | Open Wednesday–Sunday, 10am–4pm
