The Drawn Together Project: Kyle Hughes-Odgers

The Drawn Together Project: Kyle Hughes-Odgers

26/12/2025 - 01/01/1970

Take part in Perth’s biggest-ever mindful colouring mural this Summer school holidays.

West Australian visual artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers will create the base of the mural, stretching an impressive 13 metres long and 4.5 metres high. However, the artwork will only be complete once you pick up a pencil and add your own colour, transforming the line work into a vibrant collaborative piece.

Designed to spark wonder and encourage slow, mindful engagement, the mural invites you to explore colour theory while contributing to a shared outcome. The result will be a collective artwork that celebrates themes of community, colour, and care.

The AGWA mural, titled Southern Summer, draws on the feeling of a long, slow Australian summer, inspired by landscapes ranging from water to bushland to wide open skies. Over a two-week installation period, Hughes-Odgers will create the line work, intentionally leaving the colour unfinished to highlight the steps involved in its completion. You will then be invited to gradually fill in sections, allowing the colour to grow and emerge over time.

Mindfulness is an important life skill for children, helping to build emotional resilience, intelligence, and overall wellbeing while supporting them to cope with stress, fear, and anxiety. This project offers a creative, accessible way to practice mindfulness together as a community.

The Drawn Together Project will run through the Summer school holidays and families are encouraged to slow down, pick up a pencil and add their own colours to this evolving artwork.

Presented by AGWA in collaboration with AGWA Learning and WA artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers.
