Tidal Moon: Sea Grass Festival 2025

Tidal Moon: Sea Grass Festival 2025

01/06/2025

Held on Sunday 1 June at the Freo Social Club, Sea Grass Festival 2025 will feature music, culture and an impressive lineup of performers. Hosted by comedian Kevin Kropinyeri (who is flying in from South Australia), the concert will include performances by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists including Stephen Pigram (of the Pigram Brothers flying in from Broome), Phil Walleystack, Prita Grealy, Morgan Joanel, Natasha Eldridge and Emma Sibosado (flying in from Broome).

The concert will help fund important restoration work and draw attention to the need to protect ecologically sensitive marine areas like Shark Bay.

Spearheaded by Managing Director Michael Wear, a descendent of the Malgana people of Gutharraguda, otherwise known as Shark Bay, Tidal Moon’s goal is to create sustainable jobs and opportunities for the Malgana people and the broader community while also caring for Saltwater Country.

Tidal Moon is on a mission to restore Shark Bay’s seagrass following a marine heat wave which wiped out between 22-25% of Shark Bay’s seagrass beds in 2011-2012. These beds support dugongs, turtles, and fisheries, while storing vast amounts of carbon. Planting will assist with restoring this important ecosystem and will help prevent the release of up to 40 million tonnes of stores of carbon dioxide ‘bombs’ normally kept locked in the sediment by the seagrass.
