Moon & Mary
Moon & Mary, located on Fremantle’s historic Henderson Street, honours the legacy of Moon Chow, the first documented Chinese person in Western Australia.
What was once the Old Fremantle Lockup is now a dynamic three-part venue, offering a unique blend of history and modern dining. From the authentic heritage walls to dining inside real prison cells, Moon & Mary is unlike anywhere else. Convicts once passed through this building before facing the courthouse, but now you can explore three distinct spaces: Best Behaviour, The Dining Room, and The Rec Yard, each with its own charm. Two former prison cells have even been transformed into private dining rooms, creating a truly memorable experience.
The venue serves exceptional modern Asian fusion cuisine, featuring fresh seafood and bold flavours. The Dining Room offers favourites like House Cured Kingfish with yuzu kosho and pickled red grapes, Szechuan Pepper Squid with soft herb salad, and indulgent WA Rock Lobster in Singaporean chilli style. The dumplings—Local Crab & Prawn Wontons in coconut laksa broth and Pan-Fried Duck Dumplings—combine tradition and innovation.
For a more energetic vibe, Best Behaviour is a bar, speakeasy, and distillery all in one. Enjoy expertly crafted cocktails, small-batch spirits, endless beers, and a curated wine list. The in-house distillery adds an artisanal touch, while the lively atmosphere makes it ideal for a casual drink or a night out.
Outside, the Rec Yard, once the old prison’s recreation yard, has been transformed into a laid-back beer garden. Guests can relax with a drink, sample from the bar menu, or book the space for events, adding even more versatility to Moon & Mary.
With its rich history, exceptional menu, and diverse spaces, Moon & Mary offers a dining experience that blends Fremantle’s past with a modern, energetic twist. Whether dining in the Dining Room, enjoying drinks at Best Behaviour, or relaxing in the Rec Yard, there’s something for everyone at this memorable venue.
